Babies: 3 - 6 Months

starting solids questions

So LO is 4 months old and Ped felt he was definitely ready for solids and although I wanted to wait til he was a bit older ( I was hoping to skip the cereals and go straight to fruits and veggies and there's so much controversy with solids at 4 months...) but I have to admit that after giving it a try for a few days he is loving every spoonful of it, barely spitting any out so clearly ready for it.

As of now, she has me giving him 1 tbsp of rice cereals once a day. But when that little bowl is done, LO is always fussy and looks like he could go for more. I am still BF as normal and giving him solids either as a snack or an extra after a nursing session.

My questions are: why do they recommend we start with just once a day? and should I give him a little more since he looks like he wants a bit more? TIA

Re: starting solids questions

  • I don't know why they recommend once a day, but our pedi said twice a day. So for a month DS got cereal for "breakfast" followed by a bottle and "lunch" followed by a bottle. We now do cereal for breakfast and other solids for lunch. I did one tablespoon for a couple weeks and then upped it to two. Maybe try twice a day, or two tablespoons?
