Re: UO Thursday

  • I hate having to wait an hour everytime I go to the foot doctor.  I understand that some places have emergencies and the doctor may be called away, but how often does that really happen with foot doctor.

    What's UO?

    Unpopular Opinion :)

  • This is more of a FFFC but sometimes I resent the fact that I no longer have me time. It's really hard sometimes. I wake up, do laundry, get E set up for the day, feed her, go to work, I'm gone for 10-ish hours every day, I run any errands that need to be done during lunch or on the way home, I get home about 7 every night on a good night. When I get home I immediately feed E and start her bedtime routine. I eat dinner and go to sleep. I have NO time for just me. I love my daughter. I love my husband but sometimes I like alone time. I got married at 29. I lived alone for a long time. I was used to alone time and sometimes I really miss it.

This!! I adopted my daughter when I was 27 and was a single mom until I was 32 but now I have no me time. I completely agree and my DH doesn't get it.

There's another story out there about a mom going to the media because her child wasn't allowed to do something.  In this situation her 'transgender' son wants to be in girl scouts and they wouldn't let him because he has boy parts.

My UO is that I HATE that this parents feels the need to exploit this situation so she gets 15 min of fame and her son gets what he wants.  What ever happened to teaching your kids that they can't always do everything that they may want to do??

On top of that, I'm so not sure about a 7 year old being transgendered.  I understand that they may feel like they are different or something but I don't understand how a 7 year old boy can say that he should be a girl.  I'm willing to bet that the boy doesn't have a father figure and that the mom doesn't have any daughters....

To clarify, I'm not saying that there aren't transgendered individuals or that that's wrong, I'm just saying that at 7 years old, I don't think that it could possibly have fully registered.

    and flame away.....

Lol, no flames here -- I think people generally go through a lot of phases in their life and it takes some time to figure out who you are.  7 does seem pretty young (but maybe when you know, you just know?).  I know people in their 50s who are still trying to "find" themselves.

And how about those people who have kids, and then decide they want to be a girl/guy?  "Yea I'm going to be hanging out with my dad 'Sheila' this weekend."  That's gotta be confusing for kids right? I guess some people go through half their life thinking one way, and then realize they want to be a completely different person!

    Ugh, I'm rambling...

But before I stop, my sister has a friend who is a lesbian.  She was with her partner for a couple years and the girl decided she wanted to have a sex change (they ended up breaking up a couple years later).  But in the meantime I always wondered -- since her partner suddenly had guy parts, was my sister's friend still considered a lesbian?

I am not flaming you, but most of the first-person accounts indicate that gender expression can start really early. For example, my dad is transgender and he has clear memories as early as 3 years old of wanting to be a little girl and of trying on his mom's clothes out of the laundry pile--and living in a very traditional Irish catholic family--he definitely had a lot of male role models ;)
