Breastfeeding

LO constantly nursing

I had issues early on with bfing, but kept trying. In the past 2 days, I mostly bf my LO....and decreased use of formula.  Yesterday, I pretty much breastfed my LO the entire day. I guess he is helping to build my supply or he is going through a growth spurt. When I massage my breasts after a feeding, there is still milk coming out so I know he is getting milk. He is peeing and pooping as normal.

I was wondering how long I will be feeding LO for an hour or 2 at a time? This is especially difficult at night because I am really tired for an hr long feeding.  Please share you experiences.  TIA

Re: LO constantly nursing

  • It'll get better soon! You have a good attitude, and you're right that he's building your supply and going through a growth spurt. Enjoy the quiet time nursing now. In a few weeks, you should have more time between feedings.

  • It will get better and like PP said you are probably going through a growth spurt. My LO was like this, too. I was constantly frustrated because I felt like she wasn't getting enough milk from me and I was so sore.  It got much better. Just give it some time. It seemed to get better for me once I stopped getting frustrated that she was always always always eating.

  • Get a book or start watching a show on the computer and just go with it.  My LO ate all.the.time until she was 2 months old.  It was really hard to sit that much every day, but I'm so glad I stuck with it.  She eats in about 10 min during the night now.
  • My LO used to take 30-45 minutes to nurse and would nurse every 1-2 hours for probably the first 2 months. I felt like that's all I did. For the first few weeks when she was nursing constantly at night I would get done nursing her and 30 minutes to an hour later she would need to eat again. It's so hard, but it gets better. I just kept telling myself that.

It's still hard sometimes (she still nurses every 2 hours during the day) but now she usually only wakes to eat 1-2 times a night. It only takes her 10-15 minutes to nurse now and she's back to sleep.
