NE1 else's LO scratch at neck/head when trying to fall asleep?

I kind of thought this was only something infants did.  But the past few weeks, when my LO is trying to fall asleep, he scratches at his neck or head.  Just wondering if anyone else's LO does this and if so, how do you stop it?  Is there anything you can do other than putting a glove on them (which doesn't really stop it but just prevents scratches/blood)?

  • Yup, and holds onto her ears (one in particular) like "handles".  The head thing just started a couple weeks ago, kind of like she just figured out she can do it.  She pulls on her ear so hard the skin at the top by her head is actually dry, and she's cracked it to the point of bleeding at times!  Have pointed it out to pedi, we just put on Aquaphor (Neosporin if she's actually cracked it open).  She had a few scratch marks on the back of her head, but nothing to really worry about, and hasn't scratched herself since so we haven't done anything about it.

  • DS does. He pulls on his ears and rubs his eyes. I trim his nails almost everyday, otherwise he draws blood.

  • DD just started rubbing her head when we are rocking her. She also will cover her eyes or rub her eyes a lot.

  • LO pulls her hair and scratches her ears. I have to trim her nails on a daily basis since she was scratching the inside of her ear.

  • yes my LO rubs his eyes, nose, all over his face all the time when sleepy. will also flip on his belly in the crib and rub face back and forth on the sheets. I try to keep his nails short and they don't seem long at all yet I constantly find a new scratch! also pulls the ears, scratches them when tired.

  • When LO is tired she will start by rubbing her eyes, pulling her ear, then rub her head and pull at her hair until she falls asleep. Recently she has also started pulling at her whole face when she is tired.
