We've decided to name our baby boy Evan Zelle. Zelle was DH's grandfathers name, and we both really like Evan. But DH wants to spell it Evin. I think his name would constantly be spelled wrong, and quite possibly pronounced wrong. What do you think?

Re: We agree on the name, but not the spelling...

Why does he want to spell it that way? Just to be "different"? To make your child "Unique"? PLEASE tell your DH that the spelling of a name isn't what make a child unique. And all it really does is say to people "his parents are idiots - they don't know how to spell....".
I truly roll my eyes when I see unique spellings and I think negatively of the parents every time.
Don't do this. Please.

Oh, and I'll put this out there.... you're using his grandfathers name, YOU are carrying the baby - YOU get final say on the spelling.
This was a card I was going to play w/ my DH if necessary. He picked the name, but we disagreed on spelling. In the end,I won, but if I hadn't, I was going to pull the "You picked that name, *I* get to pick the spelling....".

Oh, FFS! Spell it Evan.

love is for every her, love is for every him, love is for everyone
Please go with Evan. Evin makes me think of Evil.
Plus when I see Evin I want to prounounce it even.

Evin looks evil. It also looks pronounce "even".
Good Idea! I will do that! Thanks.
This. Looks weird like it's pronounced Even.

I once knew a guy who spelled his name Evin, but it was pronounced "Even". He was a gross, rapey creeper. Just typing his name makes my skin crawl.

Tell your Dh that Evin makes me think of Erin being said by someone who can't say their R's.
Evan, on the other had, is a nice name. The "a" makes it sound and look much more masculine.
Oh my... please keep encouraging your husband to spell it the traditional way!!!
EVAN!!!!
When I first read Evin, I read Evil!!! Maybe that can be an argument against spelling it that way!!!!!!
I think Evin is dreadful.
Evan Zelle is nice though.

This! They are not the same name! If you want it pronounced like "even" you should spell it Evin, but if you want the name Evan, spell it E-V-A-N.
