Leila/Laila/Leyla--CLICKY poll

Hubby loves this name more than Lila(h), but I'm more on the fence...we have a niece, Kayla.  Does that matter?[Poll]

Re: Leila/Laila/Leyla--CLICKY poll

  • FYI one of my closest friends is Leila but she pronounces it LEE-la

  • I think it will get mispronounced a lot. Leila could be Lee-la, Lay-la, or lie-lah.

  • Out of those options the only spelling I've seen is Leila, and I've always known it to be Lae-la and have never been confused about how to pronounce it.

But I've only ever known ones that spell it as Laela.  I don't really like the Layla option.

  • Sorry for any confusion....but the name I'm asking for opinions on the preferred spelling of the name "LAYLA", though, I don't like THAT spelling, as much.  I'm leaning toward LEILA.But I wonder if it is too similar to my niece, Kayla.

  • A friend of mine spells her name Leila and it is very frequently pronounced incorrectly. Everyone says it with a long E as "Lee-la" instead of "Layla" how it is supposed to be said. I think if you want it to be pronounced with a long A as "Layla" then you should spell it with an A as either Laila or Layla.

  • I prefer Leila.  Ialso don't see what is so hard with the pronunciation. Lei (Hawaiian flower garland) -la.  I don't see how Lei could be Lee or Lie.

  • I never post, but felt the need to on this one! My name is Laila so I guess I'm totally biased! Love the way my name is spelled and wouldn't spell it any other way! :)
