Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Is it normal ?

My six month old is only 15lbs .. i dont really have any other babies to compare him to my sisters kids had the steriod shots since they were preemies, and are really big for their age. i hear of 3 and 4 month olds being 15lbs.  he also drinks about 5 to 6 bottles and 3 jars of food a day.

  • That's on the small side, but still on the charts for a 6 month old. Nothing to worry about!

  • DS weighed one ounce shy of 15 lbs at his 6 month appointment. That put him in the 10th percentile for weight. He is small but he's been gaining steadily and making good progress on the growth chart so the peditrician isn't concerned. DS was a month early so he started smaller but he eats a TON now and still is small so I think he just has my metabolism. DH and I were both super skinny kids.

  • DD was 15.5 pounds at her 6 month appointment (which was actually about 2 weeks after she turned 6 months). Her growth has been steady and on her growth curve, and that's what matters. She has been about the 25th percentile all along. We just had her weighed this week again because she is having a procedure done and she is now only about 16 pounds at about 7 months.

Just had our 6 month yesterday.   Allie was 15 lbs 2.9 oz (25%), 27 in (80%) and head is 20%.  The head is tracking about the same every time, but her weight has dropped percentiles consistently.  Pedi wasn't concerned at all, figures they just "stretched" her for length.   She also had a huge poo right when we got there and was due to eat (had our appt over an hour later than scheduled) so that may have something to do with the weight.  I've tried to weigh her at home and gotten higher weights, so I really have to wonder if something was off yesterday anyway.

She has rolls on her legs, arms and wrists - she just doesn't have the standard baby "Buddha" belly.  She has plenty of energy, and other than her constipation issues, is a crazy happy baby.

If your pedi isn't concerned and baby is hitting milestones and isn't lethargic, I wouldn't worry too much.  They all end up being different sizes so it only makes sense they would be different sizes now too!

  • All the PP, staying consistant on the growth charts is what is important.

But for us: our girl was around 15 pounds at her 6 months.  She's skinny like I was and tall like her daddy.

  • Like some of the PP, my DD was about 15lbs at her 6 month appointment, too. Smile
