Baby Names

sib names: Will and Kate?

My son is Will

The only name I love for a girl is Kate. I know everyone will be annoying and say 'oooh, Will and Kate". This is the ony reason to reject the name Kate for me. I love the name. Will and Kate will pass in the media, right? Plus my daughter will have an independent life away from her brother for most of her years on the planet. Would this be a deal breaker for you? Thanks!

  • For me, it would be a deal breaker. When I read the subject line of your post, William and Kate were the first thing I thought of. I also think they will be in the media for many, many years to come.

FWIW though, I think Kate is a lovely name.

  • Definite deal-breaker for me, too.  Sad because I love those names.  It would be as bad as my cousin who has Will & Grace  - - -born at the height of the TV show!  eek!

  • Yeah, it'd be a deal breaker for me too unless I had my heart set on the name Kate. If it's only one of your top choices I'd keep looking.

  • when i saw this post i simply thought ick.

    deal breaker.

  • I wouldn't.  William and Kate are the future monarchs of a country, they aren't actors who might get less media attention as their careers wain.  They're pretty much here to stay, even if in a few years we don't hear as much about them.  When their children are born, it will be all over the news, when the Queen passes away, same deal.

  • Deal breaker for me, too.  They're not going away--they'll be around for years and years.

This is what I was thinking, as well. They're both great names, but ...no.

  • I know someone who has a Will and a Kate, but they were both born before the wedding/couple came about. I feel so bad for those kids! It would sadly be a deal breaker for me, too. Cute names though!

  • I think that they will be in the media for a long long time, but if you love the name then go for it.

  • great names... but I wouldnt do it
  • Will and Kate will NEVER pass in the media...are you kidding?  Look how Diana was chased and she was no longer even married to Charles.  Will and Kate will forever be looked at as a unit.
  • I teach, and have a sibsit at school named Will and Kate. No one has said a word about it. I think I'm the only one who notices the royal association. Do it!

  • Will and Kate aren't just celebrities fading in and out.. they are royalty and will forever be in the media.

It probably wouldn't stop me though.

  • So funny that you posted this.  I have a Will (William) and I absolutely love the name Kate (we would use Katherine as her full name).  I have gone back and forth with whether it would be weird or not to use the name Kate if we had a girl the next time around and honestly I don't know that it would be a deal breaker because of the royal couple.  I say go for it if you love it!
