Timing of pumping sessions

So I had my first day at work today starting a new job. There are TONS of meetings all.day.long.  I almost had to excuse myself, but then the meeting ended.  Question is how strict do I need to be about the timing? Is 30 minutes late or early going to mess things up?  Plan is to feed Ryan before I go at around 5:30 or 6am, in the car at 6:30am pump on my commute (she usually only takes one boob in the early AM--I think this feeding is going to go pretty soon), then pump again at work at 9:30am, 12:30pm and in the car on the way home at 4pm.

I'm mostly nervous about the 12:30 pump because it seems like I have lunch meetings almost everyday, including tomorrow with the CEO who is pretty old school.  I don't want to show up in the Exec dining room with my PISA backpack, but I will if I have to :)

Re: Timing of pumping sessions

  • I don't think a half hour here or there is going to mess you up too much but I'd be more worried about it opening the door to getting more lax about adhering to a good pumping routine. A half hour might turn into 45 minutes or an hour or even more so jut be careful to try and stay on the schedule as much as you can.

And don't feel bad about excusing yourself to go and pump. I know you're just starting a new job but by law they do have to let you go and pump.

Im not back at work yet but I plan on blocking off my calendar for when I need to pump so no one can schedule meetings during that time. I hate my job so I'm looking forward to ducking out of meetings to go and pump.

  • You're so right!  I need to just get over it.  I just felt a little awkward telling a roomful of men that I had just met that I needed to excuse myself.  Tomorrow I'm going to input all my pumping times in outlook and hope that people respect them.

  • It is a little awkward and had I not warned and joked with a lot of my coworkers about me pumping when I got back I'd probably be a little tense about it too. Just make sure your immediate supervisor knows what's up and you'll be ok.  I'm sure most people know you're a new mom so I would hope they'd figure it out when you had to excuse yourself.
