First of all...I have been MIA. I was here all the time over the summer but now that I am back to teaching it is tough to get on here. I had to clear that up if you don't know me or don't feel I have been supportive lately.![]()
My info/questions/concerns:
I have a bicornuate uterus (heart shaped) and the doctor didn't seem too concerned but would recommend me to a specialist if I wanted that. DH and I decided to start trying to see what would happen. We have TTC for 2 cycles after my m/c. It took 2 cycles with charting to get pregnant the first time.
I have noticed that my luteal phase is on the shorter side (10 DPO I started to spot but no red blood until 12 DPO). Is this cause to call my doctor?
I have a really light period right now when I normally soak through a tampon every hour. Is this strange to have such a different period?
How many cycles do I wait before I call the doctor? I am 33.
Basically, I can be a total hypochondriac and just need to make sure I don't overreact or don't react when I need to.
Thanks in advance for your guidance.
Re: Coming to you ladies for some answers to many questions
Has your luteal phase been shorter on all your cycles or just this one? Did you have brown bleeding or spotting before the red blood?
From what I learned from NaProTechnology brown bleeding is an indicator/biomarker for luteal phase defect. Just fyi
How many m/c's have you had? Just wondering since you asked about calling the doctor. Usually they won't do anything until after a year of TTC and not concieving.
Sorry I do not have any information on a bicornuate uterus. :-(
Good luck!

Both cycles we have TTC after m/c have had shorter luteal phases. I had noticed it prior to my pregnancy and took B6- got pregnant.
I have had one m/c. I hope they don't make me wait a year...even at 33?
Do they count how many cycles of trying after the m/c or including the m/c (sorry if this is a stupid question)?
PAL/PGAL Welcome
Everything I've read about cycles after a miscarriage is that it can take a few for them to get back to normal. I wouldn't be too concerned about the light period. My first cycle of bcp was 108 days and I expected the heaviest period ever and instead it was super light and lasted only a few days.
If you are concerned about your age, I would call your doctor anyway just to ease your mind and to have a preconception appt where you can address all these issues.
Also, my doctor told me that after the mc, the "year" doesn't start over. So I went off the pill in March, got pregnant in August, m/c in September and she told me if I'm not pregnant in six months (from sept) then she would be worried.
I've missed you! Seeing familiar faces makes me feel less alone in a sea of newbies, no offense to the newbies. I just, I don't know, I miss my friends!! I'm glad you're poking your head back in, and hope the school year is going well for you.
From what I've heard about bicornuate uterus it can be cause for concern, but there are also women who have carried successful pregnancies with one. I'd trust your Dr on this on, and would take him up on seeing a specialist to put your mind at ease. Maybe a specialist will say the same thing your Dr did, which would be double good, but if not he/she might have a really good suggestion on where to go from here. I'm all about gathering information, even if it just reaffirms what I think I know.
I believe the spotting a few days before your period can be indicative of a luteal phase defect, but I would definately check with your OB. The change in the heaviness of your cycle is normally due to how thick the lining of your uterus gets during the cycle before it sheds. If this is directly after your loss for a few months I would say it's normal. If it comes and goes and doesn't have any set pattern, I would question it.
At this point, I wouldn't wait to make an appointment. The whole 1 year thing I don't think applies in this case, nor does the 6 month rule. If you have questions and concerns I would address them, see what you can do if you need to be doing anything differently (testing, meds, or nothing), and also ask them once you are back to your new "normal" how long you should expect to wait before making an appointment to see them if you're not KU. I know this kind of got wordy, but eehhhh that's just me. (((Hugs)))
Thanks ladies! I may give a call just to ask my same questions and see if that warrants a consultation or if I should just wait to see what happens over the next few cycles.
