Babies: 6 - 9 Months

If you use the whale tub (or something similar)

When did you take out the green piece that supports the LO leaning back and not slipping forward?

Its impossible to keep my baby girl leaning back now. She wants to sit up, which makes me nervous with slipping forward etc. I mean I always hold an arm when bathing her but still!  So I am wondering if it is time to take out that insert or not.

Re: If you use the whale tub (or something similar)

  • We don't have the whale tub but we have an "infant tub" of sorts that had an insert to keep the baby more stable (before she was able to sit up on her own).  As soon as she could sit up on her own, I took it out.  She LOVES sitting up in the tub and splashing the water.  She leans forward a lot because she wants to stick he wet feet in her mouth.  I'm always there, with a hand on her at all times (as I know you and every mommy/daddy is) so if she goes too far, I can catch her before she gets a face full of bath water.

I say- do it!  Let your peanut try something new!

  • Hi! We loved the Whale of a Tub and only recently stopped using it in favor of the plain old kitchen sink, because Anna is sitting unsupported now.  We took the green piece out probably a month ago, when Anna was 6 months old and sitting supported.

  • We have the whale tub. We took the green hump out when DS was about 6 months and he could sit on his own.

  • So glad for this post! I forgot you could do that; DS has been sitting for a while and I have a TIME during baths.

  • I hadn't even thought about taking out that piece. She won't lay back in the tub anymore, but that piece doesn't seem to bother her. It would be a lot easier to clean her bum without it though...

Same, and she actually grabs the edges when she feels like she might slip.

  • I took it out tonight! She did great. I just put a lot less water in the tub and it was harder to wash her hair without her on an incline but she looked more comfortable!
