Breastfeeding

EBF- shorter feedings/crying at breast? help. (xp)

My LO is 1 month old. We had a rough start to BFing but are doing much better now. In the past week or so my LO is "draining" my breast in about 5 minutes- she used to nurse for AT LEAST 20 minutes on each side. Sometimes now she only wants the one side... how can she be getting enough in that short amount of time? she is also nursing every 2 hours now instead of every 3. is she just becoming more efficient?

Also, my breasts are really soft all the time now and never leak, like they used to. Im worried my supply might be low? sometimes she nurses then pulls off and starts to cry. She acts really hungry but fusses screams and cries on my boob and i dont know what to do! she is constantly pulling off and re latching.

She was just diagnosed with reflux and started meds yesterday. is the crying when feeding thing a sign of reflux? should i start pumping to increase my supply? could this just be a growth spurt? she is sleeping a ton and only awake for about 2 hours a day. TIA.

  • This sounds exactly like my son when he was going through his growth spurt. We started giving him gas drops and it seemed to help- but he ate and slept nonstop, until about 1am- then he was up for hours! haha

Yes babies become more efficient, this sounds very normal.

This is also normal, your body has regulated to your babies need.

Again, this is normal during the early weeks, babies fuss for many resons red this to  learn more: https://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/baby/fussy-while-nursing.html

  • growth spurt 110%.. DD use to do this to me.. She actually just did it last week at the babysitter she would fuss after 4.5oz. just keep feeding on demand you might get engorged again you might not.. Expect this every 3weeks for a couple days than they should go back to their normal routine until 3months when it happens for like 2weeks lol
