I probually already know the answer to this but I'll ask anyways. Someone I know if selling their medela PISA with a bunch of extras for $160(used a couple times). I would get all new parts for it.
Would you do this, or buy a new one? We have an HSA card and breast pumps can be used on it if the receipts are kept but it would drain our account plus I would have to pay a little out of pocket. In another month once we get our physicals done we will have another $200 or so added by my husbands work. What would you do?
Re: new or used?
I agree with PP -- buy new, especially if you can not be COMPLETELY assured of the health history of the original owner(s).
Also, I would really price this out. I don't even think $160 is a very good deal for a used pump for which you still have to replace many parts. A quick search on BuyBuyBaby.com or BabiesRUs.com says that the least expensive PISA is $244. (Also other styles and/or at different retailers list for ~$249-299)Use a 15-20% off coupon and you bring that price down to $195-200 (max of $240 if you buy a $299 one with an easily-available coupon). You then really need to price out how much the replacement parts are going to cost you if you buy used. I could easily see spending $30+ on replacement parts, which is a cost you wouldn't have if you bought new.
Yeah -- after running that math, there is NO WAY I'd spend $160-200 on a used pump.
The used pump you're talking about doesn't sound like that good of a deal since you have to replace all the parts.
