receieved an email from the ex's lawyer requesting that, since the relationship is now over, I return "personal property" that he has left at my apartment. Part of this personal property he is requesting is the baby's crib! More or less the only thing I asked him to pay for during my entire pregnancy. I get how people that are hurt and struggling become extremely petty, but this is one of the most absurd things I have ever heard!
It was a gift as far as I am concerned, and not even to me, to the baby.
I am now wondering if his mother will contact me and ask me to return all of the gifts I received at the shower she threw for me?
Anyone else experience anything like this? I am not relinquishing the crib. If it comes down to brass tacks, he can take it off the thousands of dollars he currently owes me.
Re: rant of ridiculousness
LO's belongings do NOT count as HIS personal property...they are LO's property. My ex tried to get my LO's stuff...he had no right to it because it does not belong to him (or even to me really), but to DS. Just because he wants something does not mean he is going to get it.
I'm assuming you two were never married, correct? Not sure how it works in that situation, but in a divorce, "personal property" would equal anything he owned prior to the marriage/relationship. Anything else would be subject to divsion during mediation/court.
XH tried to do this as well since he chose to use his bday money to buy LO's furniture which to him = him owning it. He also tried to say he wanted all LO's clothes and toys that anyone in his family gave LO. I reminded him that those things belonged to LO, not to him, nor me, and by taking them, he would deprive LO of ever wearing the clothes, playing with the toys, etc. since DS only sees XH 2 times per month.
Tell him to get over himself and stop being petty.
