As ya'll know baby B of my twins has multiple food allergies and restrictions. Baby A seemed to never have reactions so I never had concern. That changed a week ago. We had some sausage from the farmers market for breakfast and baby A broke out into hives some 30 minutes later. It took two doses to get the hives to disappear. I thought it was a hoax or mix up. Tried the sausage again and he had the same reaction. At this point I was thinking maybe it was the seasoning. A little spicy for him (20 months old) We tried Boar's head Pepperoni on pizza last night and he had the same reaction. We immediately called our pedi to request a referral to Baby B's allergist. Our pedi agreed it was time to test him.
I am a worried mess. Baby A is already a picky picky eater. My biggest worry is that his diet is opposite of Baby B's. I will be a short order cook. =( I can't believe I have to do this again. My heart is aching for Baby A. He gets scared very easily.
But as I write this I start to think that maybe the boys will be okay and as they get older they will have each other to lean on.
Re: testing baby A
i'm so sorry! that stinks.
you are totally right about both boys will have each other.. that's for sure!
one thing i learned is that "Food allergies = short order cook".. I made 3 different meals last night and he ate what was on my DH's plate instead (almond butter/jelly sandwich). I feel at a loss sometimes when it comes to a picky eater.. it's a challenge. i can't imagine 2 of the same age and both having challenging meals.
good luck at the allergists.
has he had pork before without issue? Did you use a different seasoning/spice or something? Maybe it wasn't the pork but one of the additives. Lots of pepperoni/sausage etc. has milk proteins and all kinds of binders included.
He's had pork several times with out any issue. It's the same kind we buy from the farmers market (grass fed) the same 5 ingredients, no binders or milk protein. I know there is no milk because I've asked him since baby B is allergic milk.
Do you know the farmer/vendor well enough to ask some follow up questions just in case? Maybe there was some cross contamination issue (like if they used the same slicer that they use for slicing cheese or something). It can't hurt to ask. I really hope it's something besides the pork.
