Breastfeeding

Advice

I have a clogged duct on my Right boob...I got some advice from the Oct. 2010 moms bd. but I was wondering what advice you ladies might have to help me get rid of it and stop the pain....I am always on the go go go at work...So much I hardly have time to pee and I have ppl knocking or talkign to me thru the "pumping room door" about work :( at home I nurse DS about 2 or 3 times after work and a few more on the weekends...

  • If it turns into mastitis you might need to see a doctor and get some antibiotics prescribed.  This happened to me and they also prescribed a smear to put on my nipples to prevent thrush in my baby.  Much later when I saw an LC she said to consider myself very lucky the doctor did not discourage me from continuing breastfeeding, which is very common I guess.  Make sure the doctor you go to is not only pro-breastfeeding but knows that antibiotics to treat mastitis are compatible with breastfeeding.

  • Don't wear any tight clothing or bras. Use heat and massage to help break it up. Nurse and pump as much as possible. Point LO's nose towards the lump when nursing (which may require some acrobatics). Take some BF friendly pain reliever.

    GL! I had one this weekend that had me howling in pain and I was almost back to normal the next day. If you start feeling sick, go to the doc!
