Help! UTI and Breastfeeding Question

Ok, I'm sure I have a UTI but can't make a doctor appointment until tomorrow. I've had 2 infections in the past, once last year. I still have some pain medicine left over (phenazopyridine.)

I'm dying in pain and really really want to take a pill to hold me over until tomorrow. I'm not sure if it is safe for breastfeeding? Anyone know if it's okay? TIA!

  • Taking the med will potentially interfere with the urine tests that will need to be run to dx your UTI.

  • I get UTI's quite frequently unfortunately, I don't drink nearly enough clear fluids as I should, which is believed to be why.

I didn't take the pain medicine (the pyridium/stuff that makes your pee orange) - because my insurance did not cover it, and I was thankfully not in that much pain, but my OBGYN knows I EBF and called that in for me along with my antibiotic so I believe it's safe.

This is what the nurseline told me last night. Thanks for your response too! I didn't take it and I'm going in today.... ahhhh the agony! I hate it!
