What do you do if LO constipated?

My LO is 6.5 months old and is eating solids now .. I think the wheat cereal that she has been eating has made her constipated.  She didn't poop like she usually does today and she grunted so hard to pass poop but nothing...what can I do for her?

I hate giving juice, but I did give my DS some apple juice a few days ago.  Just 2 oz diluted with half water.  He pooped within about 6 hours.  I wouldn't worry too much until 3 days, then I'd probably do a glycerin suppository.

Go easy on rice, applesauce and bananas, they are all constipating.  I found giving my LO prunes on a regular basis helped with the constipation.

She was on rice cereal for about a month with no problems.. have been trying wheat cereal for just over a week now.  Should I go back to rice cereal?

I think we gave DD diluted pear juice when she was constipated.  DS has the opposite problem.

Prunes!  That worked for me.  Also, I've been feeding DD oatmeal cereal and it has her pooping 3 times a day.  We've been going easy on that stuff since poo # 3 today.  It must be the fiber in the oatmeal...

We had this problem with DD - here's what the nurse told us.

1. no rice cereal and lay off apple sauce, pear sauce & bananas for a little while too

2. Lots of oatmeal, peas, broccoli, apple/pear/prune juice

3.  warm bath with a little baking soda in the water

 I've made oatmeal and prunes a regular part of DD's diet ever since we had the issue, and we haven't had it since.

Just mix a couple spoonfuls of prunes whenever your LO eats a food that constipates her. its so sad when they push and cry, but this did the trick for us.

We use prunes.  DD wouldn't eat pureed prunes so we used prune juice with her. DS will eat pureed prune juice.

I only give DS oatmeal cereal, for no particular reason other than I had several boxes of it, and that doesn't cause constipation.  If he gets constipated (usually from bananas) then I mix his oatmeal cereal with a little apple or prune juice instead of formula.  He poops like clockwork so I can usually figure out that he's getting constipated before he experiences any real discomfort.
