Weird pain- anyone know what it could be?

My baby is almost 3 weeks.  Have no idea if this has affected anything, but she started off not eating a lot (we had to monitor her weight) but has finally started gaining weight.  She's been going through a growth spurt, so she's been nursing much more frequently the past day.

I don't have any pain in my nipple, but when pressure is applied to the top of my breast (like if she's laying on my chest), I get this shooting pain that's inside my breast, but towards the top.  It's not excruciating, just uncomfortable.  It is kind of prickly feeling- it's very hard to describe.  I don't notice pain while nursing, or even at specific times before or after nursing.  I only notice the pain when pressure is applied to the top of my breast.

Obviously if I still have this pain through the night and tomorrow morning, I'll call my Dr. I just didn't know if anyone knows what this could be.

  • Could it be a plugged duct? I'd try feeling for any lumps in your breast. If you find one use heat and hand expression to relieve it. The shower with hand expression also works well. Worth a shot...

  • I'd agree with a plug, or the start of one. Although, I have on and off unexplained aches and pains. For the first 3-4 weeks my boobs hurt ALL the time. No matter what.

  • Thanks ladies!  I haven't noticed the pain today, so hopefully if it was the beginning of a plug than it worked itself out.
