Moms of 2+, pg question

I know we've talked about this before, but can I ask again?

How similar or different were your pregnancies?  I'm just barely starting to consider ttc again, and after a really tough 1st pg (3 months of m/s hell), I'm wondering how much I can dare to hope that the second one may be different.  Thanks for any input you can offer!

Re: Moms of 2+, pg question

  • Mine were very similar, except I had more pain while I was pregnant with #2 because my ligaments were already stretched out from #1 so I needed a support belt and some chiropractic to deal with hip/lower back/pelvic issues.

  • Mine were pretty much identical except that I had less pelvic pain/pain walking with DS2.

  • mine were different, had morning sickness and pain more with the 2nd pg than the 1st.

  • Totally opposite ends of the spectrum for me. With #1 I had about 10 weeks of terrible ms, but the rest of the 9 months were bliss. This time around the ms wasn't too too bad, but I've had a million other symptoms which had me 100% convinced that this one must be a girl. Not so much. Hopefully it's different for you.

  • They were pretty similar although my morning sickness was less the second time around.  In some respects I was more uncomfortable the second time around and earlier on in the pregnancy too, but I didn't mind it as much.

  • The morning sickness was a lot worse with #2, lasted a bit longer. I think the morning sickness was worse because I was chasing after Logan who was a year old. I remember throwing up and Logan closing the toilet bowel on my head. Overall the pregnancy was easier, I gained less weight, which meant less heartburn, and overall pain was decreased.
  • Mine were fairly different.  I had much worse morning sickness with #1 and worse fatigue.  They weren't wildly different but they were different.
  • My pregnancy with Lilly was brutal.  I had horrible hyperemesis and was put on bed rest really early on in my pregnancy...7 or 8 weeks along?  I was able to come off that bed rest later though once my HG was made manageable through steroids.  The pregnancy was not a fun one for me....although the end of the 2nd tri and 3rd tri were not bad...I was really nervous to get pregnant again because I didn't want to go through all of that again.

Now with pregnancy #2....it's been much easier.  I still had HG but the doctors jumped on it quickly this time and we went straight to the steroids that helped me last time.  So I was feeling better sooner.  This pregnancy has been really much better than the 1st and that was something I was really nervous about before we got pregnant!

And just to throw it out there, I am pregnant with another girl so having the same gender didn't equal the same kind of pregnancy for me.

  • Mine have been so different.  In fact my OB had to talk me down a little because with my DS I was so sick all day with tons of aversions and it started to go away at 14 weeks.  This pregnancy I barely had m/s (in that I felt kinda nauseated some of the time) and it ended at 9 weeks!  I wasn't tired at all with DS and I have been super tired this time.  All in all this pregnancy has been so much easier.

  • My first was hard, lots of m/s and migraines.  Second was easier, still had m/s but much more mild, still got headaches, but not as bad.  I had preeclampsia in both pregnancies.

I have to throw in that my SIL had m/s very bad with her second and not her first, but she had a girl first then a boy.

I think it all has to do with your body and how it reacts to being pregnant.

  • my kiddos are about the age difference yours would be if you got pg pretty soon.

the second pregnancy had been super hard where as the first was easy peasy.

I had no ms first time and this time I had to take meds for it. I've been sick for the last month (from allergies).

the pregnancies couldn't be more different :

  • My PGs were pretty similiar. 2nd was slightly harder, but the first I barely felt PG so just having a toddler to deal with was really what made it harder. No m/s either time, the hip problems that developed right before #1 was born popped up earlier with #2 but thats pretty much it.

  • Mine were really different.  With Natalie I was sick for about 12 weeks then felt great until the end and got tired again.  Gained 24 lbs and overall had an easy pregnancy.

With Addi, I lost 3 lbs total, I was sick until 37 weeks.  But other than that I felt good, more tired than before but I think that was because I had a toddler to chase after.

  • Mine were all very different. Obviously, my experience with Ben was very different than my other pregnancies. With DD, I wasn't sick at all, but then had a rough delivery/postpartum experience. With DS, I was sick for weeks, developed GD and hip issues, but had an amazing delivery and postpartum experience.
