I don't feel the need to respond to DD's every little fuss in the night. She's waking just once at around 5am to eat. I want to turn off the monitor so I don't hear her noise maker or her cough, sigh, toss and turn, fuss a little. I only want to know when she's really awake and ready to eat. Her room is next to ours and I will hear if she starts talking or crying loudly enough. Is it time to shut it off?

Re: When did/will you ditch monitor?
I have a video monitor and some nights I've turned the volume all the way off. I'll probably use it until he goes to college
Actually, there's probably some teenage boy stuff that I probably don't want to see, but it would be pretty funny if I used it when he was that age!
Me too! We have a video monitor in my 3 year old's room and the angelcare movement monitor in DS's room. Once DS reaches a year we will remove the movement pad just use a the monitor part but I'm think of getting a second camera for his room.
I also have a video monitor and turn off the volume. His room is right next to ours so I wake as soon as he starts crying but then I don't wake up with every amplified moan, groan, gas, etc since I am such a light sleeper. I still like to have the video part on so I can look at it as soon as I hear something and see if he is awake or not before I barge in there and potentially wake him up. It will probably be a long time before i get rid of it completely.

Probably not until he's old enough to come to us if he needs something. For that he'd have to be walking, at least in a toddler bed, and understand how to get to us and when he'd need to. I'd say probably between 2 and 3 years old. He's still far from STTN at this point and he wakes up at a different time every night. His room is across the entire house from ours and I wouldn't hear him without the monitor.
We still use it with DS1.
Set it to a "sound activiation" only setting. then you don't hear everything. You just hear it when they need you.
haha. Me too! It can make for some humorous sights too!!
I plan on using it until he's at least 5, seriously. We have 2 cameras and 2 monitor receivers, so I can watch him and any future LO. Minus 2 weeks of multiple wakeups he has STTN for 3 months and I still can't sleep without hearing his every movement. His room is downstairs also but there's a ton of space separating us. I'm a deep sleeper and wouldn't hear him if he cried out. I can't imagine ignoring him if he needed something.
