But on the opposite gender? Since so many people are so unisex/boy names on girls crazy now, has it happened to you? Were you annoyed or were you "meh whatever" ?

None of the names we really like have gone unisex, but I'd definitely give the side-eye the first time I heard a boy called our girl name, or vice versa.

Yes, a little...and honestly it annoys me if someone I know (more that just a passing acquaintance) uses my kiddos names on the same gender...and especially on a pet. I just think there are so many names out there if one is taken by someone you know you should keep looking.

I would be happy if someone used Faolan for their little boy, it would mean that mine was not the only one lol! I really wouldn't know how to react if I saw it on a girl.
And Kieran is a unisex name, so not a big deal there. Though I haven't seen another girl Kieran out side of my DH's family.

I was annoyed but I knew that going into it that people use it on girls. I have only met boys with my DS's name though and every older person I meet who hears his name thinks of a famous person by that name who is a boy, too. I just hope it never goes the same way as Ashley or Leslie, etc.

YES!!!! My friend is using ou DS's name for her daughter due in December. I hate obvious boy names for girls. All I can do is smile when she talks about it though.
Nope. I am a girl with a boys name and I love it (and I am very girly). My first choice for a girl is also a boys name and I get excited when I see people name their daughters with more masculin names.

Growing up, I thought I had the best boy's name every and I was super excited to use it--Avery.
Yes, I'm super annoyed that it has "gone to the girls" and every time I see it on one, I roll my eyes a little.
THIS!!! Avery was my boy name too. I LOVED IT! My brother named his daughter Avery...I still cringe!
DH and I are planning on naming our son Riley. I do get super mad when I hear little girls named Riley. There are SO MANY good girl names... Why must they steal all the boy names?

Yes, it annoys me when I see a girl Anderson. I've only seen one though, and it was on these boards and not IRL, so not like I lost any sleep over it.
I like some boy names for girls and we'd planned to use a boy name for DS had he been a girl, fwiw. I just don't think Anderson is attractive for a female.

My girls are Stella and Sloane. I wouldn't mind seeing a little Stellan (although that's not an exact translation of the name from feminine to masculine) or Sloan running around.
My DD's name - Dana - is unisex and I'd be fine hearing it on a boy. My name is also unisex - Shannon - and I've known several males with that name. After they meet me/her, they realize we're girls and it becomes a non-issue.

I just have a girl, and her name is Molly. If I met a boy named Molly I'd probably giggle.
As for a hypothetical son, I suppose it's a different question.
First, I'd probably research the name and see what the trends are for both sexes. If I new a name was even somewhat unisex, I think I'd have to weigh that into my name decision. Though I firmly think "Ryan" is a boy's name, for instance, I don't think having a boy would give me stronger claim to it. So if hearing about the occassional "girl Ryan" was going to bug me, I'd move on. To me, it's silly to pick a name that you are going to be annoyed if a stranger uses it. Also, when picking names, I think people should be responsible for looking up trends, if trends are going to bother them.
If it was firmly in the "99.9813% of the time, it's a boy's name" territory, I suppose I'd shrug if I heard it on a girl.
This. Just because someone thinks a boys name would be cute on a girl doesn't automatically make it a unisex name.
And I think it is funny that the only people in this post who are like 'yeah, totally doesn't bother me, get over it' are the ones who have used boys names for girls.

It still bugs me that Addison became so popular for girls. My great uncle was Addison Clay and he passed away when I was 14,and I always wanted to name a son after him.Now there are just too many girls with that name.

I haven't actually met a female Jackson, but I did have someone tell me so and so's cousin's whatever had a little girl named Jaxon. It's annoying, but mostly just felt bad for that little girl!
My son is named Ryan. When we chose his name, it never crossed our minds that it could be a unisex name. But it doesn't bother me at all that some people use it as a girl's name. As a matter of fact, I think I'd put it on my guilty pleasures list of girl names.
For my kids' names I would just think it was weird. I do love Rowan for a boy and I am annoyed that people are using it on girls. Oh same with Finley too, only I like Rowan better.

Re: Do you get annoyed when someone uses your baby name?
John has yet to become unisex, so I haven't had this problem yet...
But Rhys was on our list and DH finally vetoed it because there were too many girl Reeses out there.
Growing up, I thought I had the best boy's name every and I was super excited to use it--Avery.
Yes, I'm super annoyed that it has "gone to the girls" and every time I see it on one, I roll my eyes a little.
The only boys' name I like that's "gone girl" is Morgan, and it turned unisex a while ago. So no, I can't say it partiularly bothers me.
The rest of our names are pretty obscure and hypermasculine. I don't anticipate meeting any little girls named Byron, Lucius, or Xavier any time soon.
I would be happy if someone used Faolan for their little boy, it would mean that mine was not the only one lol! I really wouldn't know how to react if I saw it on a girl.

Nicholas, I doubt, will cross to the other side. LOL
I can't see our back up names- Declan and Liam, being used on girls either, but who knows.

at the rate things are going i wouldn't be surprised if girls were named john. "if i add a y is it feminine?"
if it helps at all i love it for a boy...way more for a boy than a girl.
my step father in law's brother's birth name is mary. i swear.
i'm not talking about carson, or even ryan or names like that. i mean names that are in no way for a girl (how about declan?)...
on another board a woman wants to use declan ("but declynn is better for a girl right?") for her daughter.
I honestly knew a girl Johnny.
Her name was Johnny Mae.
i used to work with a girl johnny! i completely forgot until i saw this.

I can't really picture a boy named Betsy.
That's my former (female) boss's name, but spelled "Johnnie"
Interesting question!

My son's name is Everett, but I've heard I've seen it (as a mn) for a girl spelled Everette.
I know a woman named Tomi.
As for Declan, I'm pretty sure I've seen Decklynn's in birth announcements out here.
