Anyone find a flouride without caramel coloring or other dyes?

Re: Anyone find a flouride without caramel coloring or other dyes?

  • For your baby? In Canada it is recommended to not give infants/toddlers fluoride until age 6. (that means fluoride free toothpaste as well)

Do you all have fluoridated water? Here we have different recs depending on whether the water is fluoridated or not. We give fluoride supplements (0.25 mg) to babies at 6 mos to 1 year if the water is unfluoridated.

Yes, we do have fluoride in the water. They don't even sell fluoride supplements for kids here. I tried to buy some and went to a pharmacy and the pharmacist looked at me like I was crazy! I think the age might be 3 now that I've done some googling. I was thinking it was age 6 because that is the age to start getting fluoride treatments done at the dentist at a regular cleaning/check up.

  • Have you checked the prescription flouride?
  • Have you looked at Toms of Maine? I think they sell fluoride for kids, or check your health food store for dye free things.

What's the brand and which pharmacy did you get it at. I got two different ones from target and cvs and they each have additives. Thanks!

It's Sancilio & Company, Inc. Sodium Fluoride Drops.  It says Active Ingredients: Sodium Fluoride (0.11% w/v)  and Other Ingredients:  Glycerin, purified water, xylitol, propylene glycol, natural grape flavor, sucralose, methyl paraben, proply paraben

I get it from Target.  Are those other ingredients are the additives you're talking about?  I never even noticed those on the box before I went looking (very small print, underneath the prescription label!)

Thanks for responding! We live in MA also and use the Target in Leominster. They don't carry straight flouride and their flouride/ multi vit has caramel coloring in it. I have no idea what the inactive ingredients in yours are. We try to feed our son non processed foods etc, and I never even thought to check the label on his flouride until recently. It's just crazy to me that they would add dyes to something for a baby.

that's interesting, because when DD was a baby, her fluoride was a mix of fluoride/vitamin and DID have the coloring in it.  But this time, for DS, pedi (same one) wrote a script for just straight fluoride and I do vitamin for him separately.

  • I'm having this problem RIGHT now and can't find a fluoride without dyes in it.  The one I got from CVS has red dye, yellow dye and sucralose :(

You have a to have a prescription for this, it isn't something you can buy over the counter.

  • My kid takes "Flura-Drops".  it is just one single drop per day.  No colors and no sweetners as far as I can tell.  The manufacturer is Kirkman Laboratories, Inc.

It is by prescription, and I got it from my HMO's pharmacy, so can't help you there.  Maybe ask your pedi if they can prescribe you the type without the added colors/sweeteners?
