Breakdown at Work

Today is my second day at work and I am miserable.  When I got home last night I was able to spend about 90 minutes with Robbie before he went to bed.  That is just not enought time.  Then this morning, I saw him for 30 minutes than I was out the door (He is staying home with his Dad for a few days while I get back into the swing of things at work.)  On the way to work I started crying and it hasn't stopped since I walked in the door.  I called my DH and just cried and cried.  Thank God I have a door so I can can close it when I start crying.  I can't imagine what it is going to be like when I have to take him to daycare.  Looking for some advice on how to get through this time and not be a total basket care.  TIA!

Re: Breakdown at Work

  • I completely understand.....leaving your baby is difficult. I went through this as well at first, except I had classrooms full of students all day long, so I never had the outlet to cry/express my emotions if I wanted to....

It will get easier as time goes by.......for me, it hasn't gotten easier to enjoy my job as much and I, too, am still stressed that I never get to see DS. But, the routine of it and leaving each morning does get easier.

If it makes you feel any better......I leave the house at 6:30am everyday (I'm a teacher....) and I don't even get to see DS b/c he is sleeping and if I go in his room, he will wake up. So, I don't get to see him until I come home :(

  • It really does get easier with time. I was a mess the first couple of weeks back after having my DD.  It didn't help that I didn't have much work to do yet so most of the day I was pretty bored, etc.  But once I got busy and got back into the swing of things it made the days better.

See work as time for yourself. It can be hard to imagine when you are missing them so much, but getting away CAN be a good thing. You can eat lunch without interruptions, run errands, even just go to the bathroom alone for a change (trust me, that's a toddler thing!!)

  • Oh Kristen, I'm so sorry to hear about this.  I can't believe that you are already back to work!  Where has the time gone?

Just take it one day at a time.  I wish I knew what to say.
