me! And in the past with my other two babies it didn't really matter, but with this baby if I sleep on my back or roll over to my right during the night my whole body "falls asleep". It is really scary and I can't stop rolling over to my back while I'm sleeping. Let em know if you come up with a good solution. I tried the preggy pillow and a body pillow- nothing seems to work!
I switch back and forth between left and right...and sometimes I sleep semi-inclined on my back. There is no way you are going to be able to maintain only the left your whole pregnancy. While it is ideal, the other positions are not going to hurt the baby.
When I lay on my left side the baby becomes extremely active! She likes to kick my bladder and then I have to get up numerous times to pee. So it's more comfortable to sleep on my right side. :-)
I don't think it's a myth about laying on your left side. When I was in labor and the baby went into severe distress they had me lay on my left side with an oxygen mask. That being said I don't think it hurts to sleep on your right side rather than left.
I've been trying to sleep on my left side but it's so hard because I've slept on my stomach my entire life! So sleeping any other way is very difficult for me! But the easiest way for me to sleep on my left side is to wrap myself around my husband and use him for support so I don't roll anywhere lol I'm probably going to have to find a different method very soon though because he moves around in his sleep quite a bit!
I sleep basically however I am comfortable. My OB has repeatedly told me that when sleeping on my back becomes dangerous, my body will let me know. He says that I wont be able to sleep and that my body will wake itself up.
I think I might be getting there soon. I've been falling asleep on my back because thats the way i can feel little girl moving around the best. :P but i've been waking up on my sides. So i'm pretty sure my body is doing what it needs.
I usually switch from side to side, but yes!!!! I keep waking up on my back when my body has started to feel numb. It's freaky! Even a body pillow doesn't help me, unfortunately. I'm trying to sleep propped more towards my belly so that it will be harder to roll over, but am not sure if my sleeping self has quite caught on yet.
I am a stomach sleeper so anything besides that is hard for me. After I had DD and my supply regulated enough to where it was comfortable to lay on my breasts I just about cried with joy.
The only thing that helps me sleep is my Snoogle. I put the long side behind my back to prevent me from lying flat on my back. Then I can sleep on either side or leaned back against the pillow so I can sleep on my back without being flat.
It's not a myth that sleeping on your left side is better, but both of my doctors have said that if I can get into a comfortable position and get a good night's rest not to worry if it's not on my left side.

I'm a L&D nurse and I just attended a conference on advanced skills, it discussed this being a myth, for many many years left was thought to be better so nurses instictually do this, however the latest research has shown that either side (perhaps one over the other depending on the patient) is best. If the baby's cord was on the left side flipping a patient to the left will exacerbate the issue as it would cause further distress, its completely situation specific, however it IS a myth that the left is better, either is good for baby provided no other cord factors are involved.

That is super interesting. I find that I am more comfortable on my right side most of the time...I wonder if that is my "best" side?
Re: Sleeping on left side?
i'm not doing much sleeping these days, so i toss and turn.
it's going to suck when my belly gets too big to turn over easily!

What about the flamingo pose
but like, with a pillow under the bent leg? Can I do this as long as it's comfortable?
