C-sections

RCS scheduled before or after your due date?

Just curious.  Dr. says I am a VBAC candidate but got a call from his office with my RCS scheduled for 3 days prior to my due date.  Not sure if I should inquire about a later date or if it is best to keep what we have.

Thanks!

Re: RCS scheduled before or after your due date?

  • Both of my RCS were before my due date with DS it was 4 days before and with this one it will be about 6 days before. 1st c/s was emergency.

  • Mine is scheduled for 3 days before, but I don't think this baby is going to make it that long because of issues we're having.

Are you wanting a vbac, and if so, why do they have a c-section scheduled?

  • I think that most will schedule them within the 39th week. Anyone that I have known to want a VBAC the OB always stated that they needed to go into labor BEFORE the scheduled c-section date or they would need to have the c-section. Check what your particular doctor's policy is.

  • My OB practice schedules repeat c-sections after 39 weeks - mine is 39 weeks 2 days.  I had to sign a form indicating whether I wanted to go for a VBAC or an RCS, so we are all clear on what my choice is - if you want to try for a VBAC you should tell your OB and find out how long they will let you wait to go into labor on your own.  My OB will let VBAC moms go to 41 weeks and won't induce (due to GD I'm not sure if they would be comfortable with me going that long).  I would think if you want a VBAC and you're low risk you can at least defer scheduling a c/s until the week after your EDD.

  • It sounds to me that your OB may not be very VBAC friendly. Usually they will let you go to at least 41 weeks (although putting a time limit on you has not been proven to increase or decrease your chance of UR) They physically cannot force you to have a RCS, and if you show up to L&D in full blown active labor they're going to have to let you labor. I would talk to your OB more in depth on this and I wouldn't schedule your RCS until at least 41 weeks.

  • I can't go past 38w because of medical reasons
