Breastfeeding

Thrush question

I suspect I may have or may be developing thrush.. I sent a message to my Dr. and she sent in a prescription for diflucan but also said that some monistat derm (over the counter) on my nipples can help as well. My question is, if I do use that, do I need to clean my nipples before breastfeeding my LO? or is it okay to leave it on

Re: Thrush question

  • My guess would be to clean your nipples...not sure if you want LO to be consuming that stuff.

  • My LC said that as long as it's been 30 min since I applied the monistat, it's ok to feed. If less, rinse with water. I've been using it for 3 days and it's really helping!!

  • Your baby needs to be treated as well, even if its not visible in the mouth, you can keep passing it to eachother. Also wash EVERYTHING really well. I boiled my nursign pads, paci's etc in vinegar water! It cleared up quickly.
