Anyone else on blood thinners?

I am on low dose lovenox and aspirin for a clotting disorder (reason they think I had 2 m/c).  I've been taking them since I got a positive ovulation test (May).  Today I had two bloody noses, which hasn't happened at all.  It freaked me out!  Called the doctor and they are sending me for bloodwork tomorrow and have an unscheduled appt for Thurs. (and I have to call if I get another one in the mean time).  Just wondering if anyone has experience with this.

Re: Anyone else on blood thinners?

  • I'm on Lovenox for a history of DVT.  I've never had a nosebleed, though.  There is a Lovenox Ladies check-in on the High-Risk Pregnancy board on Thursdays with a lot of ladies who've been on blood thinners for various reasons if you want to ask there. Hope everything turns out OK!

  • I'm on Lovenox and have not had nosebleeds.  My gums bleed like crazy every night when I floss.  I'm sure your fine.  It's that time of year when the air is drier and our noses tend to be more sensitive and the Lovenox just enhances the chance of bleeds.
  • I'm on baby aspirin and a low dose of Lovenox as well.  I've had a few bloody noses, I think it's just a side effect of pregnancy and not necessarily blood thinners.  Mine cleared up pretty quickly, but if it would have gone on a long time, I may have called the dr.

There is a group on Babycenter called "Lovely Lovenox Ladies" that I post questions in sometimes.  They are very helpful.

  • I'm also on Lovenox for a clotting disorder.  While I haven't had any nosebleeds this pregnancy, I had them a LOT during my last pregnancy (when I wasn't on a blood thinner).  I would bet that the nosebleeds aren't directly related to the blood thinner.  With the air getting drier this time of year, I wouldn't be surprised if mine starts bleeding soon.  The main problem, I would think, would be getting them to stop since you are on a blood thinner.  Probably a good thing to check with your doctor about anyway though.  Hope they can get you all fixed up!

  • I'm also on low dose Lovenox and baby aspirin. Before this, I started getting nose bleeds and was bringing up blood clots the size of quaters at least 2x a week, but since the meds, I've only had bloody gums, which happens to be a regular symptom of pregnancy. Hopefully your nosebleeds are being triggered by a change in the weather and that it's not something more serious. Pls keep us updated. Sending T&Ps!

  • yup, lovenox. tmi - i've never had a nosebleed, but when i blow my nose it's often bloody. i think it's from running the heater and my sinuses getting all dried out.
