Problems with frozen milk

DD has a bottle everyday from my freezer stash.  Twice she has drank about an ounce then acted like I was torturing her with it.  I looked at it and the milk looked yellowish, that can't be good right? Today she took a bottle no problem and the milk looked normal.  I hope it was just a fluke because I have a lot of milk in my freezer.

Re: Problems with frozen milk

  • Are you tasting it or smelling it?  Maybe a lipase issue?  look up on kellymom.com. Or is she just not used to bottles?  My DD won't take a bottle from me still.  GL.

  • I would look it up on kellymom.com  Also, I would smell it, if milk has soured, it would smell bad.  My DD doesn't really like frozen milk as much.  I have heard that sometimes when you freeze milk, it can get a soapy smell and that is fine, but I am not sure about the coloring...my milk still looks white after defrosting it.

  • Sounds like a lipase issue to me (I second the recommendation to look it up on kellymom).  The only way you will know for sure is to taste it.

I have a mild lipase issue and my unthawed frozen milk smells fine but has a gross aftertaste.  I discovered my lipase issue when I noticed a bag of milk that looked a little off to me (it was kind of yellow).  I tasted it and it had a horrible aftertaste.  If I don't scald my milk it is good for about 2-3 days in the fridge or 4 weeks in the freezer.  I had to toss 100+ ounces that was about a month old when I discovered the issue.  I scald everything I freeze now.
