Going rate for babysitters?

We're spoiled...we have so much family in town we've had to have a non-family babysitter only once in 5.5 years.  Even that was a few years ago.

However, now that we need someone I have NO clue what to pay her!  She's actually one of the teachers at daycare so it's not a local high school student.  I fully expect that her rate is much higher.  But my girls absolutely love her and we trust her so completely that we're willing to pay the premium (on top of the fact that we don't usually have to pay...).

So, for an experienced daycare teacher to watch my two girls 5.5 and 3 from about 6-9 pm, how much would I pay?  She won't have to feed them dinner and she might have to put them down for bed.  It might be a little shorter than 3 hours.

I have an idea in my head...I want to see if it's right.

Re: Going rate for babysitters?

  • Based on her experience at least $10/hour. I would just ask her a rate.

That is what I did with the neighbor girls. Well it was actually their mom but she said they have gotten $5/hr for 1 and up to $8/hr for 3 kids.

  • Depending on the sitter, we've had sitters here and it's somewhere between $8-12/hr... We've done all sorts of things with sitters usually if it's a shorter time we pay a little higher than if it's a full day...

  • I would say between $10-15 per hour.  We also use a teacher from our center.  It works perfect!

  • I pay $13/hour rounded up to the nearest 20. With a minimum of $40. Sometimes I pay more just to keep us in good favor.
  • We use a teacher from our daycare and pay $10 an hour (we round up too).
