Any suggestions...

I'm at work and I feel so exhausted (of course can't get a full 8 hours worth of sleep).

Of course caffeine is out of the question for a quick pick me up...but is there anything I can do to get a little bit of energy to get me through the day?

  • Even decaf, coffee helps me. I think it tricks my brain into thinking it's getting caffeine. Bananas also give me lots of energy and they are SO good for you. You may also want to try standing and stretching once an hour or walking around - when I get too sleepy, sitting still for a long time really knocks me out.

  • If you are able, take a quick power nap. I have a blanket and pillow hidden in a drawer so I can take one in the afternoon if I'm really sleepy. Or go out to your car and relax there. I find I'm more focused after a quick nap, no sense in denying my body what it wants.

  • Drinking really cold water helps me, but I do also have a cup of real coffee in the morning and sometimes in the afternoon if I really want it :)
  • Have a cup of coffee. It isn't of course out of the question.

Ditto.  Its my understanding we can drink a moderate amount of caffeine every day.  One cup won't hurt.

I'm really not a coffee drinker in general (even before pregnancy), but I did indulge in the ocassional Latte or Frap.  Hmmmmmmm...I just may have to!

Go for it! My Dr. caffeine is fine, I have a couple cans of diet coke every day, I'd never make it through without it :)  This morning I was REALLY dragging so I had half a frap just to make it to lunch time.

  • I have actually found that taking a quick 5 - 10 minute walk has helped give me energy during the day - having that time to just walk and think and be alone always seems to make me refreshed.

  • I just had a mega sized mug of hot chocolate and now I feel wide awake (for now...).  Getting up and walking around does help too.
