Frozen Milk...another ?

im sorry if this has been asked before but i was wondering if any of you ladies have used breastmilk that has been frozen for between 9-12 months in a chest freezer? i was told that it can last up to a year but wanted to ask someone who has actually used it after having it stored/frozen this long. was it ok? did your baby accept it? the reson i ask is that i have quite a bit of frozen bm and since i have a year to spend with lo i usually just nurse but i want a supply in case anything happens i can give it to her as long as possible! if i dont use it before i wean (by a year - when i go back to work) i would like her to have it instead of cows milk for as long as possible but am wondering/hoping it will still be ok?? i do get dh to give her a bottle of it sometimes to rotate but not very often since he works long hours... thanks in advance :)

Re: Frozen Milk...another ?

  • I don't have any milk that has been frozen that long; the oldest I have is from September (LO was born in August). Even though I have a large stash (I EP), I will use a bag or 2 every couple of days to help rotate the stash. My LO prefers fresh or refrigerated milk over thawed frozen stuff, but she won't refuse it.

Does your LO get bottles often? Maybe try using a frozen bag occasionally to help keep your stash fresher. You can always add new milk to replace the used older stuff.
