C-sections

how long were you in the hospital?

Ds and I were in the hospital for 4 nights; we were both healthy and had no complications, thank God. A friend just had her third c/s, and was only in for 2 nights....Wondering if this is standard/if my hospital keeps you longer? I am planning on a repeat in May, and I really don't want to be away from DS/in the hospital for 4 whole days....

Re: how long were you in the hospital?

  • I stayed for 3 nights, but the doctor preferred that I was out by 48 hours.  Since it was our first baby and we were having latch issues, I told the doctor I was not comfortable going home that early.

  • Standard for ours is 3 nights, but I begged to go home after 2 and everything was going great with me and baby so they let me.

  • 3 nights.  I could have stayed for 4.  But I was begging to go home on the 2nd day.
  • 53 hours total.  We would have been home several hours earlier but there was some concern that LOs circ was bleeding more than normal.

  • My insurance will pay for up to 4 nights.   I wound up staying nearly a month due to major complications but was supposed to go home on Sat after having a c-section on Tuesday night.    My friend goes to the same OB as me and had a RCS in Sept.   She went home after 3 nights.   The dr told her she could stay another night if she wanted to but she wanted to get home.

  • We were there for 3 days, only because that was the "standard, recommended procedure" after a Caesarean; my doctor told me on day 2 that I looked well enough to go home, but we waited it out the extra day and it was nbd. I think it's legally up to you, not the "policy," but check ahead of time to find out what your hospital recommends.

  • Insurance paid for 4 nights.  I begged to go home after 1 night (even thought I knew they would not let) and seriously begged to go home at two nights.  They agreed to thre nights.  I really wanted to get out of the hospital and be home in my regular routine!

  • At my hospital, I was always there for 3nights 4days. Thats what I'm expecting my length of stay will be. I think every hospital is different.

  • My insurance will pay for 4 nights. Last time, I probably would have gone home after 3 nights but DD was having some issues so they kept her for 2 more nights. We stayed 4 nights under my admission in postpartum and 1 night where she was admitted in the pediatric floor.

  • 5 nights total -- 3 nights for the induction, 2 nights post c-section.  I wanted to leave one night after to the c-section just to get the rock out of the hospital.

  • 3 nights and I was glad to leave because they would not let me sleep with the constant vital signs readings.

  • My son was born Friday morning just after midnight, and I was out Sunday morning. They would have kept me longer, but I was begging to go home.

  • I guess every hosp is different. We were there 3 nights. I really needed it though, my recovery took forever. I was so grateful for the help of the nurses while in the hosp. Room service was great too! lol
  • 4 days/3nights.  I have a friend who left after 3 days and I thought she was crazy.  I should have stayed the 4th night.  My 4th night is always my worst.

  • I could have went home after 3 nights, but my insurance paid for 4 nights and I chose to stay 4 nights only because my baby was in the NICU and I wanted to stay closer to him for as long as I could. I still ended up going home a few days before him, but it was nice to have the extra night there.

  • 5 nights but my c-section was on day 2 after a long labor so I stayed 4 nights after the surgery.  One doctor in my practice tried to send me home after 3 nights and I wasn't ready.  My insurance pays for 4 so I pretty much wasn't leaving.  To be honest I would have stayed longer, I'm a FTM and the whole experience was completely overwhelming for me.

  • Ask your hospital what their standard procedure is. Ours is 2 days for a vaginal birth and 3 for a c-section, under normal circumstances.

I was in the hospital from Monday night until Friday afternoon.

  • I was in for three nights. I could have stayed a fourth if I had wanted to, but I wanted to go home.

  • I was in the hospital with DD for 4 days, mostly to try to BF I think.

I was in the hospital with DS for 2 days, I chose to FF from the beginning.

BOTH kids were in the NICU for 4 days, so I went home without DS.

  • Went in Friday, was supposed to go home Tuesday, ended up going home Wednesday. I had lingering hypertension issues & my doctor wouldn't release me until she was satisfied the medication had it under control.

  • I stayed for the standard 3 nights. Doctor said if I really wanted to leave after 2 I could, but I was in no rush.

  • I was in the hospital with DD for 3 nights after my c-section, but a lot of the reason was because I had her at 8:15pm.  The OB debated and said he would prefer if I stayed the third night.  I think he would have let me go after the second night if I pushed for it though.

  • 4 nights, 5 full days. I wanted to stay longer. I was in so much pain and so overwhelmed.
