BM in a bottle - how long?

I warmed up a bottle of BM milk at 7:30 tonight and my LO only had 2 oz of it before falling asleep and there is 4 oz left, how long can it sit before I have to throw it out.  I am thinking my LO will wake back up and want to finish the rest of it and wanted to know what the time frame was once BM is warmed til you have to dump it out.

Re: BM in a bottle - how long?

  • Put it back in the fridge.  You can reheat BM one time after it's been warmed up.

  • Kellymom.com will have exact times gut it should be fine for the next feeding. Always give it a sniff.

  • I've always read that you should throw out formula or BM (or food) 1 hour after it's started to feed from because of the bacteria that can be introduced.  If you had just warmed it and not fed any of it in a bottle, that would be different.  They say BM has anti-bacterial properties, though.

  • I have read that 6-7 hours max and not to reheat or anything. That is how long they say for pumped milk after pumping, so I would think same for bottle. If you are concerned, I would dump just to be safe. Bummer with BM I know.
