Heartburn remedies?

Help- any ideas for heartburn remedies would be much appreciated! I just started having it and am not sure what to take..

i have nicknamed Tums the pregnant lady's candy.

i've since switched to prevacid every other day, which has helped tremendously. i got to the point where i couldn't even drink water.

My sister chewed gum to help with heartburn. Doesnt sound right, but Ive tried it before and it worked for me.
