any ladies out there that have had scheduled c-sections?? please fill me in on what you can eat or shouldn't eat the night before surgery and if you can at least have water or ice chips the morning of? I would at least like some water or ice cause I get really thirsty easily and would be very grumpy if I had to wait after surgery! thanks....
Re: preparations for scheduled c-section
yeah mine is at 8:15 in the morning....and I have to be there 2 hours before that. Hopefully if the surgery goes smoothly and quick it won't be that long after that I can finally have some water or possibly something to eat. I just get nervous easily, so if I don't have something in my stomach or water, I will faint lol probably throughout the whole surgery hahaha
I was told no eating or drinking after midnight for mine, but some doctors give different guidelines. I would discuss your concerns with your doctor. It is annoying, but it's really meant for your own safety. I wouldn't eat anything too fatty or heavy and obviously nothing that will make you thirsty!
I ate a light dinner at 8pm and then had water until midnight. I ended up going into labor later that night and my c-section was moved up so I'm glad I ate early!
I just had my RCS last week and I was told no food or drink after midnight the night before. Honestly, with all the meds and spinal/epi, I had zero appetite after my surgery and pretty much the entire time I was in the hospital. I had a light dinner and lots of water before midnight the night before my surgery.

You will likely be told not to eat or drink for 10 hours or so before you surgery is schedule. That means no ice chips, no sips of water, no gum.
I would eat something normal for dinner the night before, and maybe a snack close to your cut off time.
You'll be hydrated through an IV once you are going through your c/s.
They'll encourage you to reintrocude food very slowly post surgery, maybe a cracker or two, a small amount of juice or water, but go very slow.
You'll survive! It is annoying, certainly, not to be able to drink, but doable.
Nobody told me I couldn't even have water the morning of, so when I showed up and they found out I'd had a glass of water the anesthesiologist said to delay the surgery. (only pushed it back 30 mins, they said for it to be 2 hours from the time I had the water)
After surgery I was soooo thirsty. Even though the IV was keeping me hydrated, my mouth was dry, but they wouldn't give me anything during recovery, and they only let me have ice chips once I was in my pp room. It was at about 6 hours after surgery that they brought me jello and said I could have water. Then at 12 hours I was allowed a sandwich. To be honest though I wasn't that hungry.
