I have been doing some research and have gotten advice from some
amazing doctors in the past that helped me with a lot of issues.
The main two that I want to share though are below:
1)
Take Calcium Magnesium for the whole 9th month you are pregnant. Take
two before you go to the hospital. It makes your pain tolerance higher.
2)
If you are planning on getting a csection make sure you take potassium
starting now. This will help with the potential gas pains you can get in
your shoulder which is agonizing.
Re: Some tips :)
Make a pregnancy ticker
How many mg above and beyond what is in the prenatal vitamins already?
Mine only has 10mg Potassium in it. I don't see Magnesium in it but it has 200mg Calcium and I also take a Caltrate daily (another 600mg)- my blood work before I got pregnant showed I was Calcium and Vitamin D deficient.
Keep in mind that even though your vitamin has certain mgs does not mean your body is absorbing it all. Most vitamins are absorbed through your diet. That is why vitamins (pills) are called supplements. You can get potassium by eating bananas, avocados, chocolate, prunes and beans. Just make sure you add those into your diet on a daily basis. GNC has a very good potassium supplement that has 99mgs of potassium. Take it every other day and then every day the week of your due date.
Without magnesium, calcium may be not fully utilized. Also, there are certain foods and beverages that will block absorption completely. Nature Made has a good Calcium Magnesium. I believe it says to take it three times daily but just take it once since you already have calcium in your prenatal.
I think PP is right on when talking about too much taken at a time not getting absorbed. It is good to spread any supplements you take throughout the day. At least the most popular vitamins work that way... Vit C can only be obsorbed so much at any given time. Everything else, you just pee out...
That being said I like the idea of a mag supplement. It helps with stress and brain function as well. I was always told to take it in college when I was stressed about finals...
This. That being said-if you get clearance to take Magnesium, it can really help with leg cramps.
