LOL. Reminds me of one of my favorite lines from "Scrubs":
Carla: I just want a baby so badly... Turk: Why? What's it gonna be like having a baby? Carla: Dr. Cox said it's like having a dog that slowly learns how to talk. Turk: Awesome!
Is this in response to the post on the 3-6month board?
I don't think about puppies vs babies as I dont own a dog (not a dog person.) I've thought about cats vs babies. My cats hair combined with my hair is all over the place. I won't give her away because I just vaccum and lint roll everything a lot.
She has in the past snapped and attempted to bite me over nothing, mostly when she was a kitten. She's mellowed out a lot but I worry about what would happen if she does it to DD. Luckily my cat wants nothing to do with my baby.
It might be an unpopular opinion, but if my dog was interrupting my childs sleep on a regular basis despite training and time, I'd get rid of him, quick. But I wouldn't get a dog in the first place.
My thought, my child is my child. My pet is an animal I love and care for very much, but no contest. If I thought my child's life would be bettered without the animal, done.
Ours is cats versues babies too. I can deal with the cat hair, but the cats shadowing me everywhere I go, and I am constantly tripping on them is a bit frustrating. (I am actually worried that I will trip when holding my daughter one time)
The frustrating thing is to me, is EVERYONE we know is allergic to cats--so it is hard to have people over--at least with 4 cats around, because despite how we clean it is never enough. That is one thing we never even thought about or realized until years later.
The cats are here to stay though. The only way I would consider rehoming them is if our daughter or future children developed an allergy to them. I am hoping that won't be the case, but we won't know until later on.
Our cats are old though--they are all between 8-10 years old.
My dog has a very special place in my heart. He was and always will be my first baby. When I first got him May 2010 he was only 3 months old. I trained him and he was great. Then the baby came along. He started rebelling. He would poop in the house and tear apart anything he could find! Anytime the front door opened up, he would be gone. He is 80 0lbs. Can you imagine trying to decide whether you should let the dog run because you are alone with the baby or leave the baby to catch him? I couldn't handle it. ((FTR: I would put the baby in the car and drive the car))
He needed a home that could care for him everyday. I go to school 3 days a week, tutor 2x a week, and now I am working on a psychology research study. Toss in a baby and a husband that works 6am- 4 pm everyday we didn't have the time to take care of walking him or letting him run at the park. I posted on FB for friends of mine to take him. They came, checked him out, but decided he was too much to handle. He dragged the 110 lb son like he was a doll. We still have him. I refuse to send him to a shelter. We just had him fixed and will restart training in December when I finish this semester of school and have a little bit of time.
Back to your question. Dogs vs babies. My baby comes first. My dog never hurt the baby, but he needed a better home. Now that he is fixed, he has mellowed out a little bit and is becoming more and more protective of DD everyday. He lets her pull on his ears and eat his nose. She loves pulling his tail when he gets it close enough. If my dog ever hurt her bad, he would be out the door. My daughter is my child. My dog is my pet. He deserves the same love and respect as her, and deserves punishment also.
Actually, it's a TV show on Animal Planet. The compare viral YouTube videos of cute puppies (sometimes kitties) and cute babies to see which is the cutest. Strangest show I've seen in awhile.

haha! I watched this today and thought the same thing..what a weird show/concept. Like a slow version of AFV but you watch the same videos over and over with lame commentary. Eyeroll....but I still watched all 30 min...

This so sounds like my kind of show.
