Food Allergy

Allergy Testing

DD had a reaction to what we believe was eggs about 3 weeks ago. We fed her 1/3 jar baby food with noodles that contained egg and within 20 minutes she had hives and started screaming followed by eczema flare-up and horrible rash in her diaper area. When we went for a follow-up with our pedi yesterday and the pedi was talking about flu shots. She said that we needed to get it at the allergiest office. However, our appointment with the allergist isn't for another 2 weeks and they said they wouldn't do a flu shot until they tested her for allergies. Needless to say after waiting for 2 hours, making the pedi call the allergist to truely make a game plan, they determined that they wanted her allergies tested right away. They decided to go straight to the blood test for the top 8 instead of the skin prick testing. Is this normal? It went from nothing really happening to all the sudden everything happening very quickly. I'm still learning about all of this, but just wondering what other people's experiences are. Also how long does it typically take to get results? TIA.

Re: Allergy Testing

  • DS had his 1st allergy testing (by pedi)  and it was a blood test for the top 8...we are now doing skin prick testing with an allergist (based on a food diary) to try and figure out what else he is reacting to.  Ds is allergic to eggs and we are testing the flu  shot in the allergists office and if he doesn't react he will get the whole thing.
