What do you recommend? Aside from NB disposables for a few days til meconium is done, or weeks til the cord falls off (how long does that take, anyway?), are there other good cloth options? Do the disposable liners work? Disposable inserts in small covers?
I have Flip covers and fitted dipes now, and was thinking about getting a few smaller covers for the first few months, but undecided. Recommendations?
Re: For the umbilical cord/meconium days?
Meconium doesn't stain. It's not an issue. Don't even worry about that.
We had no problem using a cover that went over the stump, so we started with Thirsties Duos covers over GMD Infant fitteds as soon as we got home. Those worked for 7 weeks and then we moved to his one-size stuff.

We used cloth from day 1 and never used disposable liners. The meconium washed out of the diapers and didn't stain at all.
I had a huge NB stash of all different kinds of diapers. I was really intimidated to use prefolds at first, but the orange-edge GMD prefolds ended up being my go-to diapers during the NB stage. I also loved the GMD Workhorse fitteds (which are so affordable), although I wish I'd gotten the snap-less ones and just used a Snappi.
I highly recommend Thirsties XS covers! The Flips didn't fit DD until she was over 10 pounds. You can get the Thirsties covers in their outlet (thirstiesoutlet.com) right now for $7 each.

We cloth diapered in the hospital from day 1. The mec was not an issue. The best fitting diaper for us were monkey snuggles newborns with thirsties duo size 1 covers. They were awesome. We also did the bumgenius xs and folded the front down just a tiny bit if i felt like it was rubbing on the cord.
The cord was on for about a week.
