The difference in this cup and others is that the "no spill" valve part is removable. We used it for 2 days without that part, so he got the idea that water would come out if he sucked... then I added the valve back in and he's been using it great ever since.
With the other cups/straw cups, he couldn't figure out how to work them.

We just bought our 4th cup because LO could not figure any of them out. He was able to use this one right away.
