Baby Names

was it always this bad??

Just wondering after reading the Neveah post, is there any tryndee/klassy/cutesy/youneek names out there that you liked once upon a time? A couple years ago (I'm 24) I would have seriously considered Aidan/Jaydan/Neveah/Brooklyn/La-a etc.. Now those names make me sick!

*When I say once upon a time I don't mean it was the name of your imaginary friend when you were 7, I mean as an adult.

(I was kidding with La-a BTW Wink )

Re: was it always this bad??

  • I am embarassed to admit my love of the names Aiden and Brayden.  They are so popular right now...and kind of made up so I refuse to use them.  Luckily FI hates them, so he'll keep me in check.

When I was 16 or 17 I wanted to name my first daughter Nevaeh Riley, but I grew out of that one.

  • Over the years (from age 16 to now, and I'm 27) I have legit considered these names for "future" babies:

    Myranda
    Jessica
    Savannah
    Kylie
    Rebekah
    Aiden
    Wyatt
    Jackson
    Henry (Hank)
    Colton (Colt)

ETA: Most of the names I really liked RIGHT before they became popular/trendee. Made me so sad, but I'm really happy with the names I ended up giving my kids so it all worked out in the end.

  • I see nothing wrong with Aidan. It really doesn't belong in the same sentence as Jayden and Nevaeh. That aside, I held a brief attraction to London for a girl. I still don't dislike it necessarily, but I wouldn't consider using it.

  • We talked about Riley before we got married.  Another family member of mine used it (spelled Ryleigh), so we decided not to use it.  It really took off in popularity after that.

I used to love the name Jackson & was for sure going to use it for the longest time.  Then it just exploded in popularity & youneek spellings.

I used to love Jackson too. Now, not so much.

  • When I was in college I loved the named Aiden and Brayden.  Now I wouldn't use them. (But I still secretly like them!)

  • Seems like every name I liked when I was younger is now quite popular--Charlotte, Grace, Claire, Olivia, Alice, Abigail... They were names I never heard on my peers, and I guess everyone else felt the same way. Much as it galls my inner hipster, I had popular taste. :<

(For boy names I have always preferred family names, and still do; the ones I would use haven't changed in popularity much either.)

  • For most of my twenties, I had convinced myself Finn was my future DS's name but, since then I've seen it with names like Sawyer quite alot on name forums.

  • When I was 18, I was convinced that I would name my children Jackson and Mackenzie.  Not so much anymore.
  • Oh yes. I was a McKenna, Kinley, Paisley, Tinsley freak. I also liked Sawyer and Sailor (still kinda like this one as a guilty pleasure). And Jackson was my boy choice for a long time. Thank God I waited until I was in my late 20's to TTC, since if it was much earlier, my children would have horrible names.

I fell in love with Jackson when I first saw that show USA High. I got over it quickly. I use to love the name Mallory for some reason.

  • I love Ella, I have for at least 10 years.  I am still considering using it if we ever have a girl.  I have to admit I also liked Ryder, but that is not DH's style.
