I'm sorry if this is a stupid question. Can a small(ish) follicle produce a viable egg? I went in this morning (CD21) and I have one follicle that's almost 17mm. Apparently my E2 is at 340 and my LH is surging so they want me to skip the trigger because they say I'm about to ovulate on my own. They wanted a 20mm follicle before triggering so I feel like I'm about to ovulate too early and my egg won't be viable. I'd appreciate any insight. Thank you!

If you said it was 10mm I would say no. But I think 17mm is good enough - mine triggers at 18mm. But remember that the u/s measurements are not perfect - they can be off by a bit - and your b/w tells a better story about what is happening than the follie size.

I did not see PAIF in your siggy, but I felt I needed to respond.
My RE said they have found viable eggs in follicles as small as 14mm and more typically in 15mm. I would say 17mm could produce a viable egg. GL!

My RE said he would trigger at anything over 18. GL!
Glad to hear that and thanks for reminding me that I need to add that to my siggy!
Thanks everyone!! It's good to know I have a chance.
Last IUI, if I remember right, I had a 20, a 17, and a 14. My RE called the 17 "probable" for ovulation, so should be okay. You don't want to let it go too long and ovulate on your own.
ETA: Just noticed you are skipping trigger. That part surprises me just a little. My RE triggers even with my 20mm follies...

In my lasy cycle I had 2 follies that were 16 and a few that were 14. My RE wanted me to trigger the next morning, and like you, I was concerned that I would be ovulating too early. He was very confident that my 16's would grow bigger by the next day and be viable. He also said he had a patient that had one 16 and four 14's and triggered the next day and ended up with quadruplets !! That convinced me enough that the "smaller" follie's can still have viable eggs!
Good Luck!
