What do you keep on/at your changing table?

On the top of our dresser, we're putting a changing pad, which takes up a little over half of the surface.. We did have a lamp there, to but I think by the time we put a couple of baskets on top (for diapers, etc) there won't be much room for the lamp, so I think I'm moving it.. We can also stash some stuff in a drawer, but I wondered what kinds of things do you need to keep handy at the changing table?

diapers, wipes, diaper rash cream, baby lotion?

Re: What do you keep on/at your changing table?

  • We've got a changing pad and then a basket where I keep disposable diapers (so I can put Nate in one for daycare), cloth wipes, and the spray bottle for his cloth wipes.  Before we CD'd, I kept the basket full of disposables and I kept disposable wipes on the dresser (I think they're still there, actually).  I keep his cloth diapers in a drawer, but I usually take a couple downstairs so that they're available for downstairs diaper changes.

Nate doesn't have very sensitive skin, so I've only used diaper cream on him once or twice.  I don't keep it out.  I've also never used lotion on him.  I have a huge stockpile of lotion that people have given me.  I figure we'll use it eventually or I'll give it away.

  • When DS was little, I had the changing pad, a lamp, the monitor reciever, wipes and a basket with diapers, rash cream, lotion and hand sanitizer in it.  And like MrsLee said, maybe the bulb sucker or saline drops if he was sick.

But then he got bigger, and his feet hang off the bottom of the pad and he was kicking the basket off.  So I moved the basket above his head, which made things really cramped.  And then he became obsessed with his lamp, and would roll over and try to reach it while I was trying to change him.  And then we started CD'ing.  So now our dresser has the changing pad on top, the basket with the same things as before (since he still needs sposies for daycare), and a box of wipes.  I moved the lamp and monitor somewhere else, and all his CDs are in the top drawer of the dresser.

I considered putting a shelf on the wall behind the dresser to keep supplies.  Or some way to hang a couple of baskets.  I've seen people do that before and I think it looks nice.

  • I use the top drawer of the changing table for the diaper, the wipes, the diaper cream, thermometer, etc.

I can't leave anything in the open or on top in baskets b/c he gets into it and throws it or worse. We can't have a lamp or anything on there either b/c he would kick it off.

  • A basket with wipes, alcohol, cotton swabs, diapers (small stash). Then on a water proof pad I have lotion, saline nose drops, nose sucker, vaseline (which is what we use for diaper rash), powder, gripe water. I think that is it.

I also keep the bottles full of water and a small can of formula on there too so I can make bottles in the middle of the night. This is refilled each night bf bed.

  • We have the pad and on the pad is a cover and when BabyHill was small, we kept a flannel lap pad where his butt was and a cloth diaper where his head was.  This kept us from having to change the whole pad cover all the time - because in the beginning, there will be lots of spit up and random peepee and poo.

Other things - wipey warmer, basket full of diapers, diaper cream - two kinds, and a few toys to distract him while I'm chaning him (toys aren't necessary for small babies).
