I need to transition my son from BM to formula in about a month. He has refused a bottle with formula mixed in and with formula straight.
I know he'll get over this hump eventually, but wondering which way you'd go if you've made this difficult transition.
I am not sure if mixing will prolong the transition and make it harder on him or not. Thanks! [Poll]
Re: Poll: f/u to transition to formula post
How many feedings a day are you down to?
When we transitioned, my LO was on 5 feedings during the day. I started by offering straight formula for 2 feedings a day. It definitely takes a little bit of time for their tummies to adjust to formula. My LO spit up more with formula for a few weeks. We gradually switched over to all formula bottles when my BM stash ran out.
I'd say 6 feedings a day (one is a middle of the night). He won't even touch the bottle with formula. My original intent was to mix the formula 1 oz at a time and also drop one nursing feeding a week. I am hoping to still nurse him at night if my supply stays up.
Just not sure if a longer formula transition of mixing it in or a rip off the bandaid approach will get him over this hump better/easier.
