Has anyone else experienced problems with it being backordered? I should clarify the genric Lansoprazole 15 mg solutabs are what I have been having problems finding (we cut in half and give him a dose twice a day dissolved). I have checked everywhere in town and all I found was one pharmacy with 11 days supply they could sell me. They said they don't estimate it in until at least mid december though. I have a message in to my peditrican but until then has anyone else experienced this? What did they do? DS is 7 months so should we try going without to see if he is ready? I hate to give him medicine longer than necessary but he was so miserable and not gaining weight properly since he didn't want to eat before we started so I am afraid of taking him off it too soon. When do you plan on stopping using it?

Re: Prevacid users please come in
Yes! We just went through that! We are extremely lucky and have fairly good coverage so the name brand of Prevacid isn't that bad...
Good luck!!
our insurance forces us to do mail-order prescriptions, but when we were first starting out, we had problems with Walgreens and a few other places not having it.
We use a small, family owned pharmacy that does compounding and carries a LOT of medication (TamiFlu for one, in June, when E had the flu... and no one else carried it) Our pedi office recommended it. Keep trying!
Don't forget, just by keeping the dosage the same and your baby gaining weight, you are already weaning by the slowest way possible.
For the past two months we have slooooowly been weaning off of our reflux medication. We were on an additional one for digestive muscle control (Bethanechol), which was four times a day. We've been on prevacid since 6 weeks old, bethanechol since 8 weeks.
Here's what we've been doing: for the Bethanechol, we cut down one does each week until we were done with it., but still doing prevacid daily. (started this around 5 months.) That took about a month.
For the prevacid, and we just do the full tablet in the morning, we went from every day to skipping every third day - for a week.
then to every other day - for a week
and this week it's one dose every three days.
It's been working well for us. Waiting a full week before changing again gives us a chance to see if it's affecting her, so we could kick it back up if we've needed to.
And this is all with our Pedi's go-ahead. He just wanted us to take it slow and do it very gradual.
Good luck!
DD was on the same perscription as your DS. When we first got her RX, I had hella trouble finding it at the larger chains...Walgreens, CVS. I actually found it at the local target pharmacy without any delays. And we've done refils thru them with out difficulties or delays. You might want to try grocery stores that have pharmacies in them.
We just weaned DD off of her RX. She had been on it for about 3 months (started at 12-14 weeks). She's 29 weeks now. We gave her 1/2 the dose for a week or two, then went to every other day for another week. She's completely off of it now and I don't see any changes in her appetite (compared to when she was on it). I do agree with you not wanting to keep him on it longer than necessary.
Re-reading your post, DD and your DS are about the same age. If your Dr is comfortable with weaning him, go for it. If you need to pick it back up that's an option as well.
We had some trouble finding it a few months ago but my sister works in a pharmacy so she called around to warehouses to fine some in stock.
I was nervous to take him off of it too because it was horrible before. Our pedi recommended waiting until 9 months too. DS got a cold/cough at 8 months (a month ago) and I ended up not giving him Prevacid for a few days because he was fighting it too much. He seemed to do fine so I stopped giving it to him completely. It's been about a month now and he's doing great without it. I'm so relieved because I don't think I could handle reliving how things were before. Good luck!
