Ridiculous question - stuffing envelopes

Do you stuff an envelope with the front of the card facing the flap? Or facing the back of the envelope (where the address is written)?  What direction is the top of the card facing?

I'm left handed so I tend to not do things the "right" way and I'm curious to hear how most people do it.

Re: Ridiculous question - stuffing envelopes

  • You want the person to see the main part when they open it so that almost always would mean the image or front faces the back flap, or in the case of a folded letter the flaps would face back.

  • The front of the card should face the back of the envelope, not the front where the address is written.  Reasoning is because when people open an envelope, they do it from the back flap and will see the front of the card when they open the envelope.

  • What everyone else said about front/back.  As far as which edge of the card should face out, I don't think there's a right answer because it depends on if the opener is right or left handed.  I'm right handed and hold the envelope in my left and pull the card out with my right.  So I like to have the "open" side of the card at the opening of the envelope so that when I pull it out, it's oriented the way I'd ready it, kwim?

  • I think I do it backwards. I am pretty sure I put the front of the card to the front of the envelope.
