Birth Control After Pregnancy after multiple C/S

Hi, I am thinking a head of myself a lot, but I was wondering if any of you who have had 2+ C/S have gotten the paragard IUD. I was thinking about this after this pregnancy because it is hormonal free. I do not do well with hormonal birth control while it helps with moods, my period is still very heavy and painful as well as I get frequent migraine headaches.

I have a history of ovarian cancer in my family and one of the ways to steer clear from it is being on birth control to stop ovulation. Since we are not planning on more kids until 2-3 years after this one (I did not go back on the pill after DD due to the fact that we wanted another one soon) I need to go on some form.

What concerns me is that I heard that some doctors will not recommend IUD's for paitents who have had multiple c/s due to scar tissue, not sure this is completely true but this is what a friend of mine told me.

Please inform me, if you have been on something else let me know too I would love to get some information to ponder over the next few months. Thank you!

  • I am thinking about paraguard as well.  This will be my second c-section, and my doctor actually really recommends this form of bc for me.  Not sure why a c-section would affect whether it was a good choice or not.  Best thing is to ask your doctor what they think.

  • My ob said I could get one if I wanted after my 2nd c/s, but instead I'm on the mini pill

  • I've only had one c-section but I have the Mirena (hormonal IUD) but I also have a friend that has had three c-sections (first of which was an emergency with a classical incision) and has the Mirena as well.
