Torticollis?

Hey Ladies, I'm popping in from 3-6 because my LO was diagnosed with Tort yesterday.  We have stretches to do with him.  We'd already been doing repositioning for a month until we could get him in for a p/t evaluation.

The good news is his flat spot is still mild and if it stays that way we won't have to do a helmet.

But, I was curious.  How long after starting stretches did you see results?  We have to go to p/t until he reaches his next gross motor milestone (which for him will mean sitting unassisted).

Re: Torticollis?

  • Nadia has torticollis. We have PT once a week for her. She has just recently started sitting unassisted. We have had 4 weeks of therapy and there is already a HUGE difference.

That's good to know.  He is only 3 months adjusted, so I think we'll be at PT for awhile.  He has to go every other week.  The stretches are super fun because he screams like a maniac while I do them ::sarcasm::

I hate seeing his tight little muscle pop out when I stretch.  That combined with the screaming is enough to make me cry.

  • I don't mean to butt in however I have heard that chiropractic care along with the PT tends to work well for babies with torticollis.  GL
  • I'm a massage therapist so as soon as I noticed that DS was developing a bit of a tilt we switched him around in his crib so his head was the other way forcing his to turn his head to the other side to look out, I started carrying him on the other hip so his head was turning the other way, and I started doing stretches with him at every diaper change and whenever he was napping (he didn't fight me then). Just from doing that we saw results within about 2 weeks. He will still favor that side, like if he's napping he will tilt his head that way again, we just correct it as soon as we see it. Good luck! At this age their muscles are pretty pliable so it shouldn't take too long to correct it.
