Two Under 2

A boy and than a girl...

Hey.. I'm not sure if I really count as a 2 under 2... as my Son will turn 2 a month after the new little one is born.. But i thought i'd ask here anyways...

It's kinda a stupid question.. just looking for feedback..

So we already have  a boy.. and so we have a blue baby bjourn carrier and our umbrella stroller is blue..

So am i going to be a completely horrible parent for not buying these times new in more general netural colour?

I understand I'm going to get the odd.."Your little boy is so cute," comments.. so i won't be to offended..

We didn't buy the umbrella stroller it was given to us.. and the Bjourn was one of the few items we actually paid for.. so it's not really a waste of money to buy it new.. but i kinda feel the money could be used elsewhere AND it seems kinda wasteful not to re use them just cause they are blue

just wondering if anyone re used "Boyish" items for their daughter?

Re: A boy and than a girl...

  • We have the same bjorn and used it fine, no one really said anything. PLus I usually had a bow or headband on her (even though I swore I wouldnt ;)

The stroller, who cares. I got my sisters pink infant seat for DD since she was done with it and people still asked what HIS name was. They are stupid ;)

  • We had a boy, then a girl.  When we registered for gifts when I was PG with DS, we registered for all gender-neutral "big ticket" items because we knew that we wanted at least one more baby, and therefore wanted neutral in case #2 was a girl.  That said, we do have some "boyish" things that we use for DD.  Our umbrella stroller is blue and gray.  I do use a few of DS's old clothes that can be gender neutral (a few pants, white onesies, a few zip-up hoodies). I agree with not wanting to be wasteful or spend money unnecessarily.

Some people are funny and even when a baby is wearing a very gender-specific color, they still refer to it as the opposite gender.  This happened the other day with DD, who was in all pink, and someone still referred to her as a boy.

  • I would keep them! DD's hand me down carseat/carrier and our single stroller are all blue and gray plaid...LOL. It doesn't mother me in the slightest! I agree, the money should go to more useful things. DD has plenty of pink and girly things and the fact that some of our baby gear is blue doesn't bother me.
  • We have a blue Ergo, and I actually didn't buy it until we had the girls (I wasn't a fan of the flower print they had).  I wouldn't repurchase anything just to get it in a different color, if it works, it's good enough for me!

  • My son had a pink poodle nursery for his first year, so you can probably guess where I stand on this!  ;)
  • I have a blue Ergo and a green stroller.  I never even thought about it mattering a girl being in a boy color.  If it matters for anything, I will wrap my boy in my pink wrap.  Carriers I think are for the wearer, not the baby.  The baby doesn't care but I sure like my pretty pink wrap.

  • I have two boys but if #3 happens to be a girl I would definitely use their blue/boyish stuff. It doesn't matter. I can't even count how many times one of my kids was in the infant carrier with a blue outfit on, a blue blanket covering them, and sucking on a blue paci and I still got asked if he was a boy or a girl.

  • Yes, I used the "boy" carseat and stroller. I get a lot of "oh, what a cute little boy!" even when DD is wearing pink. I dont really care. No point in spending hundreds of dollars to get something pink. Smile

My DD had everything in pink and yet people still called her a boy.  I would just use the hand me down car seat and stroller ,because it seems like it's inevitable.

  • I'm going through the same thing right now!! I think we are going to just use some of our son's stuff already that's at home. I would love to buy all new girl stuff for our daughter but what's the point of spending all this money when we already have it at home and it's just not the right color. I think the only thing we should buy now is a double stroller and I'm not even sure how that color scheme is going to work. I think just do what makes you happy and don't worry about colors or what people think!

  • We bought new clothes (obviously), a couple of girly blankets and receiving blankets for when we are out and that was it.

The car seat was blue/brown.  The strollers are boy colors.  None of that mattered to us, personally.

  • We don't know if #2 will be a boy or girl (and don't plan on finding out until the birth), but already decided that we won't buy anything new. We have mostly black big things (car seat, stroller, ergo carrier) which obviously isn't gender-related, and we're going to get as much use out of his clothes (hand-me-downs from my sister's kids) as possible!

  • Unless you're dressing her in obviously boy clothes, then I don't see what the problem is.

If you put a baby girl in a blue car do people assume she's a boy?

If I put my wallet and spare diapers in a purple messenger bag, should people assume my little guy is a girl because of the bag I'M using?

Your concerns make no sense to me.

  • I've been carrying DS around in a hot pink Moby so you know where I stand. Interestingly enough I had a guy tell me last week how much hair HE has while wrapped up in hot pink and I was honestly amazed that he was able to figure that one out.

  • Put it this way if this baby is a boy they will have a pink bouncer and playmat. Your baby won't care what color anything is. I say reuse them and put that money towards something that you really need or save it.
  • Our daughter uses all of our son's old gear which is neutral to boyish. Her clothes are 75% his hand-me-downs--again neutral to boyish. She is warm, safe, happy with the toys and I am not broke ;) so I am happy to explain she is a girl to anyone who is confused.

  • I'm with everyone else.  If baby #2 is a girl, I'm going to buy as little as possible, even in the clothing department.  I'm sure I'll buy some daytime clothes, but I could care less if she wears pajamas with trucks on them to bed. :)
